这些天疯狂的练习单排。似乎每天都是我第一个杀到图书馆，每天也是我最后一个离开。练习什么呢，练习跳跃，练习力量。前几天研究出两种过图书馆前面花坛的方法，一种是单脚跨步跨过去，还有一种是双脚跳上花坛的边缘，再立定跳远跳过去。据我自己yy还是第二种方法比较帅 - 因为我看不到自己跳过去的样子，就只能yy了。其实还可以在空中转体180度，会更有观赏性，有机会试试看。

除了跳花坛，还练习跳图书馆上面的五层楼梯。发现跳楼梯真的需要技术。如果你不用力跳，估计会撞到最下层的楼梯；如果你用力跳，由于脚是滑动的，根本无法发力；据老夫研究，最佳的方法应该是用第二个和第三个轮子卡住楼梯的边缘，双脚一蹬跳出去，这样能够发力，跳的远，可以安全跃过楼梯宽度，落下来的时候就看你的基本功了。但是这种方法也有一个难点，就是跳楼梯的时候一般会先加速一段再跳，在有一定速度的情况下是很难把握住轮子刚好卡住楼梯的那一瞬间的。我可以在立定的时候用这种方法跳过四层楼梯，但我确信要跳过五层楼梯一定需要一个初速度才行。我跳了一次五层楼梯，没有抓住那一瞬间，虽然还是凭自己猛力一蹬跳了出去，但是身体的平衡也失去了，落地的时候大大的摇晃几下，差点挂掉。

另外一种跳跃是华尔兹跳，今天一个人练了很久。现在的我已经能够把腿荡开漂亮的甩出去，然后转体180度换腿落下站住，但问题是站住以后的姿势不好看。因为我的韧带根本没有拉开，雁式平衡做成一陀屎，腿的开度不够，非常非常不好看。

唉，太不爽了。每天都是一个人练，没有人一起玩。要是有一个志同道合的朋友一起练就好了，可以互相交流。现在只能一个人来blog上jjww。刷版现在的人没几个是真正喜欢平花或者FSK的，每天来练的几乎没有，真怀念大四下的时候，每天都有一大帮朋友一起去刷湖。

感觉M$最近积极了很多，不再是以前那幅半死不活的样子了，和大英图书馆合作，live.com之类的。都是Google的功劳啊。越来越有趣了。

记得第一次看到让光运动变慢的文章是大一的时候，在之江图书馆。Science还是Nature上一副大大的图，一束光在低温(好像是这样)下穿过一条管道的图。四年过去了，世界上终于有人可以做到常温下减慢光的运动... Intel要加油啊，AMD也是，不然会挂的。那就不好玩了。

IBM has created a chip that can slow down light, the latest advance in an industrywide effort to develop computers that will use only a fraction of the energy of today's machines.

The chip, called a photonic silicon waveguide, is a piece of silicon dotted with arrays of tiny holes. Scattered systematically by the holes, light shown on the chip slows down to 1/300th of its ordinary speed of 186,000 miles per second. In a computer system, slower light pulses could carry data rapidly, but in an orderly fashion. The light can be further slowed by applying an electric field to the waveguide.

Researchers at Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley, have slowed light in laboratories. IBM, though, claims that its light-slowing device is the first to be fashioned out of fairly standard materials, potentially paving the way toward commercial adoption.

A number of companies and university researchers are currently tinkering with ways to replace the electronic components inside computers, which ferry signals with electrons, with optical technology. Optical equipment ferries data on photons, the smallest measure of light. Photons are far faster. More important, optical equipment generates less heat, curbing the growing problem of heat and power consumption.

The catch, however, is that until recently, creating optical components has been more of an art than a science. The components cost a lot to make and can't be cranked out in the millions like silicon chips. Another factor: Optical parts are typically big, unlike silicon chips, which measure only a few millimeters on a side.

Progress in blending the best of both technologies is advancing rapidly, however. Intel has demonstrated a Raman laser fashioned from silicon. Intel and start-up Luxtera have shown off silicon modulators, which chop up the light from a laser so that it can represent data.

IBM's silicon waveguide, as the name suggests, would channel light pulses created by the laser and modulator.

When the optical conversion might start to occur is a matter of speculation. Luxtera has said it will start to commercially produce products in 2007. The computer industry, however, tends to move slowly when it comes to major overhauls of computer architecture. Several components will have to be developed before photos can replace electrons inside computers.

A paper providing details on the chip will run in Nature on Wednesday.

Sun Microsystems Inc. Tuesday launched the latest assault on the proprietary Microsoft Word document format by offering a new Sun Grid utility service that will convert Word files into ODF (open document format).

Sun is offering the service so enterprises "will no longer be locked" into a single vendor's proprietary document format," Goguen said.

ODF is an XML-based open standard file format developed by the OASIS Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards]Internet industry standards group.

Sun wants to provide a way to give enterprises an alternative to the widely used Microsoft Word document format because companies "become enslaved to a single vendor if they tied to a single vendor format," he said. "We don't think this is a good situation,"

Conversion to the ODF standard will give enterprises "control over their data" and greater choice in the office productivity applications that they can use, Goguen said.

ODF is supported by Sun's StarOffice and the OpenOffice desktop productivity suites, he noted.

The State of Massachusetts recently announced that it would adopt ODF as a standard for government agencies.

Sun will deliver the document conversion service "for a variety of formats including Word documents," he said. "We want to highlight the Word documents because that is where the majority of data is locked up today," Goguen said.

The service will give companies with older versions of Microsoft Windows the option of shifting to open source desktop application suites rather than upgrade to the latest version of Office, he noted.

"By adopting this oasis standard we believe we are engendering competition in this space," which in turn will drive greater innovation in the industry, Goguen said.

The conversion service also represents a new job for Sun's grid utility, which is a massive array of Sun servers designed to perform compute-intensive data processing tasks.

Sun announced the Grid utility service in early 2005, in which it will give customers on-demand access to grid's processing power at the rate of per CPU hour as well as the Sun Grid storage array.

However, Goguen said he didn't have specific pricing for these new file conversion services until they officially go live.

Customers can expect that Sun will continue to announce additional Sun Grid utility services in the weeks and months ahead, he said.

However, he said the pricing would reflect the same level of simplicity and transparency that Sun expressed in its basic charge for Grid computing services of per CPU hour.

Any consumer with access to a Web browser and with a credit card account will be able to upload documents to the Sun Grid for conversion to ODF, Goguen said.

Sun also plans to make a text-to-audio conversion service available within the next 30 days.

This service will take any text-based content, including Web site or Weblog content and convert it to an .mp3 file that can be played back as a podcast or as audio content for people with visual impairments.
